Hi everyone,

Why are you using Siemens NX? Which are the sectors that use NX? What are the distinctive features of NX from other programs?

What are your thoughts on the subject.?

Sorry for bad English is. Thanks

I'm using NX for school. Starting next year, they're going to use it (at least that's what I think). I'm using it for milling although we could use it for turning as wel. With the 'complexity' of the parts they turn I doubt it'll be faster for them to learn NX than it is to write a program using mazatrol, which is used on the CNC lathe.

The CAM program they're using at the moment (except for me) are AlphaCAM and pro-Engineer (last one is used by those going for their masters degree).

I don't know much about pro-Engineer but I can tell you alphaCAM is a no-go if you're importing 3D models. Scratch that, alphaCAM is a no-go once you've learned how to use NX. But I guess they're still going to use it for wire EDM (the NX license we have doesn't seem to have the wire EDM templates, or is this just a bad install?).

A friend of mine already works and he used Visicam. He says it owns NX big time (yes he has seen NX but I didn't know much about it yet back then, so now I might be able to show him things more fluently).

That's all I can say about other CAM programs.

first of  all,

I use NX for two reasons,

1) for my company, PEDC (PRATHEEKSHA ENGINEERING AND DESIGN CONSULTANTS), here we concentrate on modifying automobiles, machines etc with new designs. for this I have to do design( NXCAD) and analysis(NX-NASTRAN), we havn't started manufacturing right now, but we still use NXCAM to assist the costomers who are in need of.

2) i am a trainer at CADD CENTRE TRAINING SERVICES Pvt. Ltd. here I deal with AutoCAD, Pro E, ANSYS, NX, SOLIDWORKS etc.

SECTORS WHICH USE NX

sectors which use NX includes Aerospace, automobile, defence, ship building, consumer electronics, heavy electronics etc.

companies  which use nx includes RENAULT-NISSAN, FIAT, VOLVO, DAIMLER, BUCATI, BAJAB AUTO, AMW, BOEING,GE, GM, JOHN DEERE,BHEL etc

•Integrated CAD/CAM/CAE tool.
•Manages multi-CAD data – CAD/CAM/CAE.
•All in one system - In build postprocessors and machine tools.
•Switching between CAD, CAE and CAM modules in one click.
•Less data loss in translation of 3D data.
•High degree of interoperability with a large number of CAE applications

NX CAD ADVANTAGE
•Dual input methods in sketch reduces time of production.
•Less data loss in translation of 3D data.
•Separate module for aerospace field.
•Realistic display of model using true shading
•Instant drafting.
•HD3D and incredible visual reporting.

NX CAE ADVANTAGE
•ANALYSIS USING FEM/FEA.
•Integrated with NASTRAN(NX NASTRAN)
•MATERIAL LIBRARY
•3D Meshing, optimizing mesh directly
•Multiple solvers allows to select the best solver for the given analysis.
•All operations in same window

NXCAM ADVANTAGE
•Tool library for each machine.
•Tool path simulation, editing, optimization etc.
•Cut time calculation for cost estimation.
•Direct generation and simulation of NC programs
•NX CAM supports wide range of machining operation.

@lovenx

currently the most popular software for mold design is PRO/E, but as of now, PRO E has been stoped, after a while it might be replaced by NX or Catia,
