CAM: How do u engrave text?

+6 votes
Hi, actually I have 2 questions both regarding engraving.

The first one is: how do u engrave text. The way I currently do it is open the drafting environment and place a note on a face. Then I use either Planar_text (Mill_planar) or Contour_text (Mill_contour) to do the actual engraving.
But I find this way very anoying. "Notes" written in one of the part inside an assembly are invisible when the assembly itself is the work component.
Also, is it possible to make the engraving in 1 line instead of the contour of a font.

The second question is: is it possible to engrave lines on their own?

BTW I'm using NX 8.0.

Thanks in advance,

hi,

  • firstly, without entering into drafting environment u can directly write a text in manufaturing environment.       (Menu Bar - Insert - Note)
  • If your assembly is a large assembly you can easily make referance sets for your notes and upon that you can create a group which could contain all referance sets (notes). this may add ease into your deep search of notes.

So I have no other choice than to make the notes in the actual manufacturing file?
Do you have any idea on the 1 line engravement and the engraving of none-text lines?
jerre, could u send me a parasolid file on which u r getting a problem, so that i can understand what u intended for, i may then help u out with it.

thank you
Daljeet Singh has helped me a lot on this subject. If anyone else even encounters this matter as a question, here's further information:

- first, without entering into drafting environment u can directly write a text in manufaturing environment.       (Menu Bar - Insert - Note) (Quoting Daljeet Singh)

-The reference sets he talked about:
1. Menu Bar - Format - Reference Sets...
2. Either select one of the existing sets or create a new one.
3. Select the notes you want to have shown in the assembly.
4. In the assembly, go to the assembly navigator (the sidebar).
5. Right click on the relevant part.
6. Click on "Replace Reference Set".
7. Click on the reference set that contains the notes.
If you've added the notes to the reference set "MODEL", it's possible the notes are already visible when you've added the notes to the set.

-To engrave a text as one line, it's best to use one of the 1 line thick fonts (don't know which ones are, but I know there's one).
-If you want overlap in your engravement (when starting point and end point are the same, a small bump might be visible), you can use the "Planar_Text" operation.

I don't know how to engrave lines on their own yet but if someone encounters, please share with the rest.
Thank you, jerre
For engraving curves or some design it's too easy, insert a fixed contour operation and select curves / point  drive method.

To engrave text as one line instead of a contour you should use font named "blockfont" from font type menu.

Have fun!
